Islam Makhachev stunned the UFC world when he defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 to win the lightweight championship. Fans and experts expected the veteran Olveira to use his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise to win the fight. But Makhachev ended up submitting the Brazilian with an arm-triangle choke to win the belt.
Since winning the title, Makhachev’s MMA career has been discussed like an open book. However, little is known of his personal life, except where he was born and where. Even the names of his parents haven’t been made public. Such is also the case with his wife.
Although Makhachev has never admitted that he is married, there are several YouTube videos from 2021 showing a ceremony where Makhachev is wearing a suit and walking with a woman dressed in white. The video also shows Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam’s mentor and good friend attending the occasion.
Several news outlets say that Islam’s wedding took place on April 8, 2021 although this is unconfirmed. The earliest of the several YouTube videos went live on March 9, 2021 so the wedding must have been held much earlier.
During an interview with Megan Olivi after UFC 280, Makhachev also confirmed that he has a daughter. He however did not give details about her. It’s also unknown if Islam has other children as well.
